Alisha’s Honey BBQ Sauce (4/5)

Initial impression: 3

Label looks a little on the cheap side.   I like when a sauce is named after a peson they put a picture of the person on it – and this picture can be stylized or plain or color or an icon sized depiction. Either one works and I think I like it best when it’s an actual picture of the person. Regardless, the picture here could be better – a shot of Alisha when she is smiling – after all BBQ is the food of the outdoors and the outdoors are supposed to be fun and happy, right?  Especially after a few beers!

Aroma: 5

A bold balanced flavor with a lot going on.  I can pick out raisins, garlic, molasses, onion, and an overall Caribbean flair.  Nicely done.  One of the best sauce smells to come along in a while.

Consistency: 4

Not too thick, not too thin.  Minus 1 for artificial color. Excellent natural appearance and spices floating around in the sauce.

Taste: 5

It’s a great flavor.  Hits you with a complex blend of onion, garlic, and honey. The other ingredients mix together well to be able to create a seamless blend of goodness without any sour or artificial/chemical-like tastes. When you look at the ingredients and eat the sauce at the same time, it’s almost like you can taste each unique item going down the bottle…    raisins, orange, tamarind,  anchovy puree, thyme, rosemary, curry, ginger, allspice, nutmeg, and so on.  Yum!

Ingredients: 3

Tomato concentrate, distilled vinegar, high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, salt, spice, onion powder, natural flavoring, pure clover honey, unsulphured molasses, water, no.1 grade mustard seed, tumeric, paprika, garlic powder, raisins, orange base, (orange, lemon, and grapefruit juices) orange peels, herbs, tamarind, caramel color, dehydrated garlic and onion, natural hickory smoke flavor, sugar, anchovy puree, peppers, xanthan gum, benzoate of soda, parsley, bay thyme rosemary, cumin, curry, ginger, black pepper, brown sugar, allspice, nutmeg and dry mustard.

Alisha’s Kitchen Honey BBQ Sauce Score: 4/5

A good sauce, almost great with a few minor touch-ups. I’d recommend a better label, better ingredients (HFCS-free ketchup only adds a few cents to your BBQ sauce batch), and that’s about it.  Alisha’s got a really great flavor that you should certainly try today… and I’m hoping we can see a fructose-free version soon!

I have tried this on chicken and you really can’t beat the flavors it adds. It is as good or better than the brands you can find in the local grocery stores.
