The sauce really packs your mouth with flavor. From the first sniff, to the dip-in-the-finger test, to the grill - a salty, oniony, red chili-sauce smokiness came through and even gave me a nice surprise bit of heat when “activated” on the grill. As the magic of the grill has shown me time and time again - there’s something big that happens to some sauces when placed in the line of fire.
From Lloyd: We have received many rave reviews from people that try our sauce and that is the sole reason we decided to bottle and sell our sauce. We started by competing in BBQ Competitions. With the help of friends and family our sauce and BBQ have gotten much better. For many people it is the only BBQ sauce they will use now. Eventually, we had enough requests for our sauce we decided to bottle it
The First Sniff
I liked the smell. Salty, Oniony, Bold, Smoky. Take your favorite BBQ sauce. Add some onion and garlic to it. Then maybe a little more. You’ve got the smell now.
Consistency
A little thin perhaps but the natural flow of ingredients coursing through the river of vinegar drenched tomato sauce makes up for it. It’s the kind of sauce when you turn the bottle, there’s a healthy residue of natural ingredients left on the bottle. For me, that’s an early indicator of what could be great sauce.
Before Cooking Flavor
Very good. A lot of people ask me for a sauce that’s not too sweet, and this is a great candidate. It leans towards those who prefer a saltier (vs sweet) flavor. The Tomato Sauce / Chili Sauce combination works really well, whereas I’ve had other sauces that overdo the chili sauce to the point of no return and an overpowering red-chili sauce with a touch of BBQ sauce flavor.
After Cooking Flavor
After heated up, the chili sauce packs a bit of surprise heat, which I loved. Not enough to damage your tongue or require water - just enough to heat the mouth a bit. The hickory smoke flavors also surface from underneath some of the burned up sugars.
Ingredients
Tomato Sauce (Tomatoes, Salt, Dehydrated Onions, Dehydrated Garlic, Spices, Natural Flavoring, Sweet Bell Peppers), Chili Sauce (Crushed Tomatoes, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Vinegar, Salt, Dehydrated Onion, Spices, Dehydrated Garlic, Dextrose, Natural Flavoring), Honey, Light Brown Sugar, Liquid Hickory Smoke (Water, Natural Hickory Smoke Flavoring, Vinegar, Molasses, Caramel Color, Salt), Spices, Green Food Color (Water, Propylene Glycol, FD&C Yellow NO.5, FD&C Blue NO.1, Propylparaben).
Marketing and Packaging
A bunch of guys from Chesterfield Virginia putting together a sauce and (perhaps) making fun of themselves a bit in the process is great. I like the crazy dudes chasing after the pig with fork, knife, and sauce in hand. Poor piggie… It’s a fun sauce and one that could go far with the right strategy.
