In depth analysis of the best sauces for your BBQ.

Ol West BBQ & Dippin Sauce (4/5)

Ol West BBQ & Dippin Sauce (4/5)

This is very good BBQ from South Dakota… it has got to be close to one of the sweetest sauces I think I’ve ever had. Brown Sugar is ingredient numero uno. But hey, people might be looking for that, so I didn’t mark any points against them for that. What I really liked about the sauce was it’s chunkiness. Dip your finger in and your finger will be speckled with a gooey BBQ sauce filled with chunks of pepper and garlic - nice!

If this were a beer it would be something like a Corona… very sweet, almost bordering on novelty, but it could also be very popular and fun.

One funny factoid is that the same company that produces Ol West BBQ Sauce (James Valley Company) also produces dog treats and … deer scents. How is that for authentic outsdoorsman condiments! Check it out here: http://www.jamesvalleycompany.com/

They also have a celebrity testimonial on their website:

This primo ooze from the Gods of erect tastebuds will turn bad road kill into gourmet delight. I travel far and wide to discover the very best chow upgrade and John Collins over at The James Valley Company in South Dakota has the best of the best here folks!

Very interesting - but let’s get to the review shall we?

Nice smell - mostly the scent of “Natural Smoke Flavor” which I highly recommend for those moments when your own cooking needs “something else.” Natural smoke flavor always does it for me.

Flavor is nice, a good strong BBQ conconction that will stick to the meat and really add a nice smoky BBQ touch to almost any type of meat.

Consistency - good movement, but I will have to reference Ted’s comment about Ooze. This stuff is really like that. It moves more like a syrup than a BBQ sauce.

Ingredients and Nutrition - standard fare. Very sugary, no FAT (which is kinda funny because the overwhelming presence of carbs makes up for the lack of fat).  Sugar lovers rejoice.

Marketing and Packaging - A fun looking package that almost promises to take you back in time to when cowboys and indians roamed the earth and occasionally stopped for BBQ and beans - cooked while hanging on sticks (of course).
