Easy Peasy BBQ Insurance Barbecue Sauce (5/5)

David Moncur, Founder, Easy Peasy Foods on why he started Easy Peasy Foods: “After spending most of my adult life going to bad Saturday backyard barbeques, I decided I was sick and tired of dry chicken and blah, burnt, or just bad barbeque. No one seemed to know what a marinade was or how to […]

Guy Fieri Bourbon Brown Sugar Barbeque Sauce (5/5)

Five Thumbs up.  2 Stars.  I mean…. The other way around.  2 Thumbs up and five stars for this puppy.  Sorry for the mixup – I’ve been drinking too much of Guy Fieri’s Bourbon Brown Sugar BBQ Sauce.  Ok, I’m not really drunk on the Bourbon in this sauce, but this sauce is sweet, complex, […]

Country Chef Mustard BBQ Sauce (5/5)

This is sauce was nice and delicate, a smooth flavor when tried alone or when cooked.  I tried it on ham, pork, and as a dipping sauce for grilled chicken and found it all to be very much enhanced with this delicately flavored mustard sauce.  It’s got very much the same base as the other […]

Country Chef Sweet and Spicy BBQ Sauce (5/5)

I just got through tasing the line of Country Chef line of BBQ Sauces and I gotta say I really enjoyed the philosophy of these sauces, the jars themselves, and the flavors.  For me the Sweet and Spicy was the standout.  Like the Hickory Smoke sauce it starts with similar ingredients (almost the exact same) […]

Dragon’s Blood Elixir Hot Sauce (5/5)

Add this to your next burrito. Dominated by the flavor of a fine fire-roasted salsa, Dragon’s Blood Elixir Hot really surprised me with a hybrid salsa/hot/BBQ sauce flavor that tasted fantastic and had just a touch of heat. Heat supplied by jalapenos, Red Savina and other Habaneros – hot sauce effects lasted about 10-20 seconds on my tongue. What a great flavor!

Pork Barrel Original BBQ Sauce (5/5)

Needless to say, I really liked this stuff. The flavor was complex and sophisticated and not sweet to my tastebuds. Some of the sauces I get are more like candy, while this is a sauce that took a spice rub concept as the incumbent; surrounded by a solid set of staffers from worlds of ketchup, worcestershire, chile paste, and liquid smoke. So that gives it a salty, savory flavor with a bit of smoke and seasonings. It’s a bin on the thin side, but not so thin as to distract from the great flavor that the sauce offers.

Grumpy’s Bold XX BBQ Sauce (5/5)

In late 2004 Jeff started up Grumpy’s with two sauces:  Grumpy’s Bold XX (spicy) and Not So Bold (sweet).     He describes it as a KC style BBQ sauce, but that doesn’t do enough to describe what’s happening in this bottle. The way I see it… there tends to be 2 kinds of people.  There are […]

Three Little Pigs KC Sweet BBQ Sauce (5/5)

The sauces taste real, and natural, and with just over 10 ingredients, there’s no mass produced or artificial flavors at all in here. Try picking up a bottle and tasting the sauce while reading the label… I found that you can taste almost every ingredient in this sauce if you concentrate on it. This is quite rare in a sauce.

Outta the Park Hot & Spicy Barbecue Sauce (5/5)

“it reminds me of the hot and spicy and ginger-sweet experience that I might experience while eating a plate of sushi – but without the nose stinging of the wasabi…”

Captain Curt’s Lemon Honey Boss Sauce (5/5)

I like the bottle, and I like the branding; it’s simple yet effective. I want to find out more about the guy and when you find a video of him or hear about stories of people who’ve met him, it usually lives up to the hype. The sauce pours thin has but has good color and a quality flavor. The taste is great – lots of complexity and variety in there – not your run of the mill average KC BBQ sauce. This is a winner. Flavor gives me bay leaves and allspice and coriander cinnamon ginger and cloves… with a slight hint of lemon. I didn’t really taste the honey which is OK by me, because some sauces that market “flavored with honey”. end up tasting a bit too strong. Decent ingredients overall, but it does contain HFCS.
