Trifecta BBQ Sauce Review (5/5)

Aroma:   Oniony Garlicy Jalapeno… oh yeah. Flavor Uncooked:  Fantastic Spicy Sweet, a a nice ketchup replacement with jalapeno undertones and garlic Flavor Cooked: Caramelizes nicely for BBQ chicken, jalapeno cheddar burgers (recommend Au Bon Pain jalapeno cheddar rolls) Ingredients: No strong negatives, but not gluten free for those with allergic sensitivities. Marketing/Label: Appearance is very […]

Review: Lil Hawks BBQ Sauce (4/5)

This is a nicely executed thin yet sweet sauce from Georgia. The bottle appearance is good and simple. It’s a guy holding a man-sized fork that is impaling a massive slab of ribs.  It’s a very small batch sauce as evidenced by the lack of nutritional information a UPC symbol and an address – but […]

Draper’s BBQ Sauce (5/5)

Draper’s BBQ Sauce is a good sauce with a surprise.    Owner Shane Draper also has a few surprises too (check out my intereview with him here). I asked him what makes his sauce different, and here’s what he said: As for what makes our sauce different, in a word balance.  When you try Smokin’ […]

Dimples BBQ Sauce Review (4/5)

After having read good reviews about it on Big Wayner and Oshawa Ogre, I was really keen to taste this sauce and Richard, owner of Dimples, kindly sent me a bottle overseas to review it. I admit I like squeezable bottles because it’s handier when you wanna pour over meat or plate, but I like […]

La Pan’s Foundation BBQ Sauce (5/5)

La Pan’s Foundation is a wonderfully complex BBQ sauce with a lot of flavor.  The ingredients are certainly remarkable – how about a sauce that combines raspberry, apple, plum, pear, lemon, coffee, cumin, maple syrup, garlic, cinnamon, oregano and more.    Truly a cornucopia of sauce ingredients!   Usually I’m not a fan of so many ingredients […]

Rufus Teague Honey Sweet (5/5)

It’s got a combination of great ingredients, molasses-dark flavor, and soy/Worcestershire added for that extra savory umami dimension. Nice. A smooth, dark, molasses-based sauce with the same base as Rufus Teague’s Touch of Heat without as much A1-style tang making it a bit less complex – but still a very solid contender in the category. It’s still enough to be given my highest rating.

Kitty’s Memphis Style Barbecue and Dip Sauce (4/5)

First impressions are very important. And on a BBQ Sauce bottle, the packaging says a lot about your product. Labels are your most important sales tool when you can’t be there to sell the sauce yourself and talk about what’s inside the sauce.   Kitty’s Memphis Style Barbecue and Dip Sauce starts out on the right […]

Cookie’s BBQ Sauce (4/5)

I’ve found that people from the Midwest are all real.   Huh?   What do I mean by that?    Well, they tend to be straight-up, honest, with no BS, no hidden agenda, and no accent. Cookies BBQ Sauce is a product of Iowa and like it’s Midwestern friends, it is also simple, straight-up, and […]

Papa Woody’s BBQ Sauce (4/5)

I’m not sure what the owner of Papa Woody’s Luke Schuenke does for his day job (i.e. Plan A), but getting going on a business making tasty BBQ sauce and seasonings appears to be Plan B.   His company “Plan-B Sauces and Seasonings” offers up this tasty treat: original Papa Woody’s Appalachian style BBQ sauce (straight […]

RavensBark: The Hickory BBQ Sauce (5/5)

The Label I liked the naming style… THE General, THE Hickory and so on (so I borrowed the idea for this entire blog post), but found the label to be a little distracting.  I found it to be a bit on the “I did this myself with photoshop and my own printer” kinda feel… And […]
