Country Chef Hickory Smoke BBQ Sauce (4/5)

Just received a batch of Country Chef’s Hickory Smoke, Mustard, and Sweet and Spicy.   I really enjoyed the philosophy of these sauces, the jars themselves, and the flavors.   The Hickory Smoke flavor must have been the original flavor.  It all started here and then branched out towards a spicier variant and a mustard based sauce.  […]

SuckleBusters Chipotle BBQ Sauce (4/5)

Like their other variants, I respect SuckleBusters for their approach towards producing BBQ sauces that are All Natural with No MSG and No Preservatives. It’s made in Texas – the state who’s residents like to go big or go home.

But… I thought to myself… why do they call it SuckleBusters? That’s odd sounding.

Pork Barrel Original BBQ Sauce (5/5)

Needless to say, I really liked this stuff. The flavor was complex and sophisticated and not sweet to my tastebuds. Some of the sauces I get are more like candy, while this is a sauce that took a spice rub concept as the incumbent; surrounded by a solid set of staffers from worlds of ketchup, worcestershire, chile paste, and liquid smoke. So that gives it a salty, savory flavor with a bit of smoke and seasonings. It’s a bin on the thin side, but not so thin as to distract from the great flavor that the sauce offers.

Cattle Boyz Original BBQ Sauce (4/5)

I like the secret ingredient in this one is the mix of a darkly sweet, molasses-based BBQ sauce flavor mixed with mustard and mustard bran. The mustard bran adds a little texture and almost a crunch to the sauce, much like adding little tiny bits of graham crackers to your yogurt. In a BBQ sauce, this is good or bad depending on your preference. Some questionable ingredients: Artificial color, modified corn starch, hydrolyzed soy proteins.

Grumpy’s Goodnight Loving BBQ Sauce (4/5)

In 2006, Jeff Greenberg of Grumpy’s foods set out to make a sauce similar to the one at a local Texas-style BBQ joint in Denver called Frank’s Barbecue.  While he admits he may not have perfected a clone of Frank’s sauce, the flavors did come out great and won a few Scoville awards in 2007 […]

Grumpy’s Not So Bold BBQ Sauce (3/5)

One of the original 2 sauces produced by Grumpy’s , the Not So Bold sauce is described as a Sweet BBQ Sauce.  And usually that’s not enough to describe most sauces with their nuances and different choice of sweeteners and whether they have smoke or spice and so on…  but for this sauce, it’s almost […]

No Naked Meat BBQ Sauce (3/5)

The flavor is like that of a vinegary ketchup with lots of brown sugar. It is very sweet out of the bottle and the molasses within the brown sugar adds an almost caramel-like flavor to the base of the sauce. On the chicken this tasted a bit candy-like, and I found it to be a little too sweet for regular use, but it could be a fun variety to have around the house for that next big cookout!

Midwest Best Barbecue Sauce Review (4/5)

Midwest Best Barbecue Sauce.  The name makes you think is from a simple, understated state like Ohio that’s not too fancy and not too flashy.  And you be correct, sir. That’s too bad, in my opinion.   This Ohio-an sauce presents itself in a far too subtle manner to reveal what they are trying to express […]
