Hog Heaven Apple Chipotle (5/5)

This is part 2 of the Hog Heaven batch I received last week in pre-bottled stage.  The line-up also includes Smokehouse, Smokehouse Heat, and Apricot Jalapeno.

Aroma

It smells like a sweet Hostess Apple Pie with a subtle hint of BBQ sauce and something spicy. Mmm.

Consistency

Movement was thick, but not too thick. Natural.  Just right for this kind of sauce. The sauce color was a dark-brownish red.

Had lots of specks that were visible in the sauce.

Ingredients

Good stuff – no high fructose corn syrup, no glutens, and no preservatives. Does contain natural smoke flavoring (liquid smoke).

Taste Before Cooking

This is a great sauce that would enhance almost any meat if served the right way.  The taste started with an apple flavor that is present but not so strong to be overpowering.  The chipotle flavor kicks next after that  and adds a minimal amount of heat.  Then you start to taste some of the other items and wonder what other goodness Mr Hog Heaven had added to this mix.

Bottom Line.

Wow. Like a baked Apple pie with hints  of cinnamon and chipotle pepper that’s just made to put on meat.  Can it get any better?  Sure it can, but I’ve never had an apple-based BBQ sauce that tasted so good.  5 stars.  Great with chicken I bet it would be great on pork too.  Maybe try it with Harpoon’s new Apple Cider (which is really good for a cider with alcohol)

Love the hostess pie reference and sounds tasty!! Funny gatorade bottles for the sauce

  2. LOL….the bottles are just pre-production sample bottles…..

  3. I haven’t used the apple chipotle sauce on anything yet, but I really like the flavors going on when trying it by itself. Would make a very interesting condiment.
