How to Make McDonalds Barbecue Sauce

Why the Hell Would You Do This to Yourself?

Who knows why you’d want to make this, you sick bastard, but join the club. Back in the day, much like my addiction to white trash standards Miracle Whip, Bullseye BBQ sauce, and Spaghetti-O’s, I also loved to dip a McNugget or six into those little McDonalds BBQ Sauce buckets. And back then, as if pondering something important like the Grand Canyon, or StoneHenge, or even MeatHenge… I remember thinking, “How do they make this stuff?”

Well, I found one BBQ hackers variation of how to do it, courtesy of RecipeZaar. And you will soon learn, based on the enthusiasm expressed in the comments, that you, my WT friend, are not alone.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup 1/2 cup kraft original flavor barbecue sauce
  • 1/3 cup bullseye original barbecue sauce
  • 1 teaspoon light corn syrup

Preparation

  • Combine the ingredients very well.
  • Microwave on high for about 30 seconds, then stir again.
  • Use immediately or cover and refrigerate until needed.
  • Makes about 6.5 ounces (6 packets) of McDonald’s Barbecue Sauce.

  1. I clicked over to RecipeZaar and found that yes indeed, people are pretty pysched up about this clone. So I tried it. This stuff is GOOD. Just like the real deal!!

  2. I tried it and to me, it did not taste the same.

  3. Any chance you can come up with McDonalds Chipotle Barbeque Sauce that comes with the Grilled Chicken Snack Wraps. I’d rather that one than the plain barbeque sauce, not to spicy but just a bit of kick!!! Thanks Much.

  4. Man I’m gonna try this after I go to the grocery store tomorrow, but I must say I am very apprehensive….i love Mickey D’s BBQ sauce, and i was expecting a lil more intricacy in the recipe. I’m gonna be pissed if this don’t work!

doesn’t taste like mcdonalds’ but still delicious. and what’s more important? my kids love it!

  6. Close, But No Cigar says

It’s Good, but kind of misses the mark a bit. However, I’m sure that one of the reasons I like McD’s BBQ sauce is because I usually have it on a McNugget. What you dunk in the sauce makes a difference of how it tastes. But I’m trying to stay away from Chicken in a tube. Just seems wrong :). They should just sell the sauce in a bottle, like taco bell does.

  7. Timothy Bosnyak says

    It’s good! but it’s NOT Micky D’s !
One thing I did to make it closer is added 1 tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar.
I can taste that in the true sauce, it’s an important add in too. This sauce is way too thick and spicy to be close.

I am looking for it made from scratch!
    Thanks anyway!

  8. I didn’t care for this concoction, either.

I’ve gotten good results mixing about 65% ketchup with 35% Heinz Original Sweet & Thick BBQ sauce. Comes up the right color, with the right acidity and sweetness. Side-by-side it’s almost identical. If I get the ratio just right, I think it would be perfect.
