ThermoWorks ThermoPop

ThermoWorks ThermoPop 1

This week’s review is on the ThermoPop rotating display pocket thermometer from ThermoWorks.

The ThermoPop is a rotating display pocket thermometer that has a super-fast temperature response time of 5-6 seconds and is currently available in 9 colors.

It can be held in either hand and a simple button press rotates the display in 90 degree increments, so holding it at any angle is very convenient.

The ThermoPop also has molded-in seals and buttons which make it splash-proof.

Accuracy on the ThermoPop is guaranteed to remain within ±2°F (1°C) up to 248°F (120°C) and it has a temperature range of -58 to 572°F (-50 to 300°C).

Below is a picture of everything that was included in the package.

The ThermoPop comes with a probe cover that is nice to have when storing the ThermoPop in a kitchen drawer or shirt pocket.

The ThermoPop also has an easy to read display with large digits and a backlight which comes in handy for those late night or early morning cooks.

To test the ThermoPop out for my review, I decided to cook a 5lb pork butt on my Large Infinity Series Grill Dome Kamado.

The night before my cook I rubbed the 5lb pork butt with my go to pork rub, Killer Hogs The BBQ Rub. Then I wrapped the pork butt in plastic wrap and placed it in the fridge overnight.

Early the next morning I poured some lump charcoal into my Grill Dome. I then placed in the Grill Dome Indirect Cooking Rack and lit a fire starter in the middle of the lump. Once the lump was lit a little I placed in my foil wrapped clay saucer that I use as my heat diffuser. I then adjusted the lower sliding damper and the upper vent to help get to the desired temp of 250°F.

Once the Grill Dome was up to 250°F I put on the 5lb pork butt and closed the lid of the Grill Dome.

At about the 10 hour mark I checked the pork butt with the ThermoPop and it showed that it had reached an internal temperature of 195°F. I removed the pork butt from my Grill Dome and then wrapped it in foil and placed it in a cooler to rest for a couple hours before pulling.

As you can see in the picture below, the ThermoPop is just as accurate as the new ThermoWorks ChefAlarm. The ThermoPop only took about 5 seconds to display the internal temperature of the pork butt. It was very fast and very accurate just as I expected it would be.

After the pork butt had rested for a couple hours I removed it from the foil and pulled it. As you can see in the picture below the pulled pork had a really nice colored bark and a great smoke ring as well. It was very delicious and everyone in my family loved it and ate it right up!

Final Thoughts

I was highly impressed with the ThermoPop! It’s a high quality product just like the Thermapen and with its low price point it would make the perfect gift for someone who loves to BBQ. (Including yourself of course!) 😉

I love that ThermoWorks offers the ThermoPop in multiple colors like it does for its other thermometers like the Thermapen and the brand-new ChefAlarm.

The ThermoPop is very user friendly and I didn’t even need to read the included instructions to figure out how to use it.

The large digits and backlit display are a nice touch and the rotating temperature display comes in handy as well.

If you’re someone who is looking for a really nice high quality pocket thermometer then I would definitely recommend picking up one or two of these ThermoPops. Plus, having a super-fast temperature response time of 5-6 seconds and a great low price they’re a steal for sure!

You can find a great deal on the ThermoPop rotating display pocket thermometer here.

  1. I was looking for another thermometer to accompany my Maverick PT 100 and saw ThermoWorks was having an “introductory” sale on these. So, of course, I came here first to get your thoughts. And as usual, you didn’t disappoint! I like their size, the backlight, and definitely the price point. I ordered 5 of them. They were $21/pc on 5 and up, plus it lowers the shipping. It was like getting a free one. Besides 1 or 2 for myself, I’m going to use a couple for giveaways and gifts. Way to cover all of the bases again, sir…Very well done!! Thank you!

    • Thanks so much for all your kind words! I really appreciate it Chad! I think you will be very impressed will the high quality and accuracy of the ThermoPop. Be sure to let me know how you like it once you get the chance to use it a few times. Thanks again! ~Jay

      • Great product! I used it on a few cooks the past 2 weeks, and it hasn’t disappointed. I checked it alongside my Maverick, and they were exactly the same in temp..it just takes a few seconds longer for the ThermoPop to get there. I love that it fits in my shirt’s pen pocket nicely, and with the low price point it should be in every cook’s arsenal. Thanks again for you review on this, Jay!

  2. Another great hands on review, Jay! Appreciate the work you do here brother!

  3. Great review, Jay. I actually purchased the Thermapen a few weeks ago and while it works flawlessly, I’ve heard so many good things about the Thermopop that I’m beginning to wonder if I should have saved the $70 and gone that route instead.

    • Thanks so much Jim! I appreciate it! I love my Thermapens. I own 6 of them lol. You can never own too many of those. I think they’re well worth the money in my opinion. I really love the ThermoPop as well. They’re almost as fast as the Thermapen and a steal at the price they sell for. I think it all comes down to personal preference between the two. I plan on getting a few more ThermoPops to give away as gifts. Everyone I know that owns one loves them. Like I said at the price point ThermoWorks is selling the ThermoPop at, you really can’t go wrong buying a few of them. They’re also nice to have as a backup if something would happen to your Thermapen. Thanks again Jim!
