Zoe’s Jerk BBQ Sauce (4/5)

This sauce – from Little’s and Lydees Foods Corp out of Chicago IL – has a lot going on.  It’s a jerk sauce, which can mean many things to different people, but in general the standard definition says the jerk sauce has Jamaican origins and typically includes allspice and scotch bonnet peppers … and can include cloves, cinnamon, scallions, nutmeg, thyme, garlic, and salt.   I thought this sauce was a little thin and I wanted more heat from it, but it had a very unique flavor – suitable for those seeking a solid jerk sauce without a spicy finish.

Zoe’s Jerk BBQ Sauce is on the bottom right spot on the Grillgrates.

Pros

  • Very interesting assortment of flavors
  • High quality, real ingredients
  • Great appearance – loaded with real specks and chunks

Cons

  • Could be a little bit too much going on with the festive assortment of flavors (allspice, nutmeg, cinnamon)
  • Could use some more heat to meet “jerk sauce” expectations
  • A bit thin and didn’t stick well to meat
  • Biggest issue I had with this sauce is that the bottle doesn’t capture the flavors or sentiment of what is inside – a fruit blend of all natural flavors with a bit of a holiday-like taste (think Harpoon Winter Warmer beer)
