Got this package from John Craven – the enterprising fellow behind Bevnet.com and Brewbound as his companies focus on beverages and not BBQ.

This sauce came packaged nicely and of course, the brand name of this sauce brings with it a perception that is positive or negative depending on your personal viewpoint.  Personally, I don’t care as long as the sauce is good.  In this case, it’s a mass produced product subcontracted out to Vita Foods… here’s a website snippet from the Vita food’s site:

Like the famous Budweiser Beer, this genuine line of sauces contains only the finest ingredients for a truly exceptional taste experience. The Executive Chefs from the Kingsmill Resort [Vita Foods] in Williamsburg, Virginia, in combination with the King of Beers Brew masters of Anheuser-Busch, have perfected these recipes, assuring your cooking experience is the best it can possibly be. Taste the difference that only a premium sauce with the Budweiser name can deliver!

The end result is a sauce that is kinda … blah – hey, just like Budweiser beer!  At least with beer, there are benefits – increased confidence, lowering your fears.  The only lowering you’ll be doing with this sauce is your grilling standards.

Smell/Aroma

Decent smell, a bit too much vinegar for my tastes in a tomato based sauce.

Taste

Average taste, vinegar with tomato.  Some smokey flavor onions and garlic.

Consistency

Average thickness. Good color.  Chunks of onion floating around add to a homemade feel.

Ingredients

Water, tomato paste, Budweiser beer (water, barley, rice, malt, hops), high fructose corn syrup, molasses, distilled vinegar, honey, mustard (vinegar, water, mustard seed, salt, turmeric, paprika, spices, garlic powder), sweet onions, worcestershire concentrate (vinegar, molasses, corn syrup, salt, caramel color, garlic, sugar, spices, tamarind, natural flavor, sulfiting agent), salt, minced garlic (dehydrated), spices, modified corn starch, apple concentrate, dextrin, smoke flavor, potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, caramel (color), spice extractive, annato (color).

Sauce Score: 3

A decent sauce that I wouldn’t throw out of the fridge, but it does lacks originality, excitement, and uniqueness

I loved it! I’m not any kind of BBQ sauce snob, and I like an honest, tasty BBQ sauce. This is one of the best I’ve found.
