Hannaford Honey Barbecue Sauce (2/5)

Of course when you buy a store brand, your expectations are fairly low.  You buy a store brand because it’s cheap and you need something quick and you don’t want to spend a lot on something that might be the wrong thing anyway…  This one cost me just about $1 and the label doesn’t really jump out and scream, “There’s high quality, natural ingredients in here!”  On the contrary, this jumps out and says “this could be mass produced in another country and no one wouldn’t even notice.”

Although I think Hannaford is a decent grocery market and brand offering a lot of organic and healthy options, this is one department in which they could improve.  Texture is super thick (again, unnaturally thick) and the taste isn’t awful but it also isn’t great.  It’s got a little bit of a chemical aftertaste and tastes like it’s not really a food product but a factory product.

Ingredients: High Fructose Corn Syrup, Concentrated Tomato Juice (Water and Tomato Paste)Vinegar, Food Starch – Modified, Honey, Salt, contains Less than 2% of Paprika, Molasses, Natural Hickory Smoke Flavor, Spice, Mustard Flour, Guar Gum, Caramel Color, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Natural & Artificial Flavors, Citric Acid, Red 40.

Gotta love that Red Dye #40.
