The Secret Sauce Smokin Hot BBQ Sauce (4/5)

The hottest in the line-up for The Secret Sauce, the Smokin Hot variety delivers a strong contender for a griller that seeks something a little bit hotter than what he/she is used to.  The base flavor is fantastic and only left a couple wants from this reviewer: slightly hotter, and a move to more natural ingredients.  This will help the sauce and the consumer in the end.

Smell/Aroma

Great smell, the same deep dark rich sweet smell found in the other sauces.  It doesn’t smell as hot as one might think after the label puts it’s chest out and calls out its heat level.  The promise on the label of habanero’s had me stretching my sniffing capabilities in order to find a trace of the hab – to no avail.

Taste

The flavors of all of the Secret Sauce sauces were excellent.  This one had the right amount of heat to be what I would consider a medium level of BBQ sauce. The reason being is that most people will grill with it and the heat level typically drops down a notch or two.  After grilling the flavor and heat level is perfect for me, as I’m not usually a huge fan of the super-hot BBQ sauces.  The reason for the 4 is that I would have expected it to be hotter.

Consistency

Like the rest of the line for The Secret Sauce, the consistency, color, appearance, and texture of this sauce is great. It’s got all the right aspects for a KC-style sauce. A deep color. A light sheen when the light is on the sauce. Evidence of the usage of natural ingredients (chucks of onion and garlic).
