I came upon this rub after trying the Duke City Sweet BBQ Sauce from AlbuKirky. And funny enough, it is this Red Chile rub that is the magic ingredient in the sauce. And on it’s own, it’s quite nice.
Outside the Bottle
The simple label with the sun is best left to a simple name like Red Chile BBQ Rub, and could even be shortened further to something like Red Rub. The look of the spices is enough to make your mouth water.
The copy writing is simple and honest – starting out with “Love to Barbecue? I do Too!” which is also a great pickup line to be used by single folks on the competition BBQ dating circuit.
Inside the Bottle
The colors and variation and complexity of the rub really shines through using very simple ingredients in a balanced way: kosher salt, red chile powder, granulated garlic, black pepper, and some other spices are listed.
I tried this rub on chicken, popcorn, and mac & cheese just to name a few items.
Bottom Line
This rub was amazing. While it didn’t provide the sweet/salty combination that many BBQ rubs are offering these days, it provided a full flavor, was true to what was advertised on the label, and delivered even more than I expected.
