Dinosaur Bar-B-Que Sensous Slathering Sauce (5/5)

Dinosaur Bar-B-Que Sensous Slathering SauceClearly marketed towards big loud chopper owners, the references aren’t too strong enough to turn off those of us who aren’t bikers.

How many references to Harley’s can you find on this bottle? I found 5

The manufacturer describes this as “an aggressive, crimson-red, tomato-based sauce riddled with spices you can see, smell and taste,” and I’d agree.

This sauce was easily the best of a recent batch of three random varieties I just got in. The consistency was thin yet stable and clung to the meat well. There was just enough heat (provided by cayenne peppers) to really add life to really tasty set of wings. This one really is unique in that it provides the three major BBQ flavors: sweet, spicy, and sour (tangy). If you are looking for something that tastes slightly different, has no preservatives, and supports really loud forms of transportation – this one is for you!

Smell: Nice with a very natural scent.

Taste: Sweet, sour, and a dab of spicy. Unique, yet not overpowering.

Consistency: One tiny nit is that it pours a little thin, but you can really see the spices as they flow out of the bottle and into intermediate basting container… and it clings well to ________ (insert favorite meat here).

Packaging: Fun “Harley-marketing”, but cheap plastic bottle. Guess it’s good if you’re like me with a kid or kids running around grabbing everything they can!

One of my highest reviews and faves so far.

Ingredients: Tomato sauce, prepared mustard, brown sugar, cayenne peppers, vinegar, natural smoke flavor, salt, spices, xanthan gum.

Nutrition Info: 25 calories per 28g serving, 0g fat, 5g carbs, 240mg sodium

I feel like a total tough guy when I use that sauce.

  2. Good review of a great sauce. I like to blend this sauce with just a little of Dinosaur habanero barbecue sauce for pulled pork shoulder. Fabulous. The Harley references are not overdone, either. Dinosaur restaurant in Syracuse is DEFINITELY a biker joint. But the food is altogether worth the risk of getting your ass kicked.

We always use this sauce in our home. I like the habanero sauce even better. And if you happen to like your barbecue cooked slowly on a smoker (I can’t imagine why you’d be reading this review if you didn’t), you MUST go to the restaurant if you are ever in Syracuse or Rochester, NY. The sauce is really good, but the restaurant is unbeatable. Don’t mind the bikers and saucy waitresses, the dinosaur barbecue is totally worth it. I recommend the 1/4 chicken with 1/4 rack of ribs combo.

  4. Tried this sauce on 4 slabs this weekend. The sauce tastes great right out of the bottle. However, if allowed to sit on the hot ribs for 15-20 minutes, it will lose alot of its flavor. You can still taste it but very lightly. But if you re-apply the sauce after you serve the ribs or have it on the table for folks to freshen up their ribs, it does taste good. Would not make a good competition sauce (in my opinion) due to losing most of its ‘wow’ factor over a short period of time.

  5. I live in the Rochester area. this sauce taste like a doctored up cheap sloppy joe sauce (not good). if you want good bbq in western ny go to one eyed jacks

  6. I’m a little late to this party, haha.
I’m a Syracuse native and my family has been using this sauce for many years. I usually make my own these days but it’s my favorite commercially made sauce hands down!
